About Ryan

Welcome, People of Earth!

I’m Ryan Dalton, author of the young adult and middle grade books. My latest THIS LAST ADVENTURE is a middle grade contemporary novel, due out from Lerner/Carolrhoda in Spring 2022. My YA time travel mystery series the TIME SHIFT TRILOGY (first in the series is called THE YEAR OF LIGHTNING) is available everywhere.

I write things, and I’m a geek. Yes, both at the same time. I also have thoughts about writing, geek culture, and other random things that may or may not be relevant (Spoiler Alert: they’re not). Welcome to my corner of the Interwebz, and when the fancy strikes I will post anything like tips on writing believable dialogue, the current state of comic books, and who would win in a fight between Abe Lincoln and an ill-tempered ham sandwich. So buckle up, Jack! (that’s right, I’ve renamed you all Jack)

Want to reach out to me? Find me on social media (links are on the front page, at the bottom) or email me at [email protected]

I call dibs on the Alexander the Great vs. the bratwurst sandwich fight. And since I’m already Jack, been that way all my life, what are you going to rename me? 😉 Anything but Bob!

“I’d say my geek and nerd friends and I have alywas thought of it the other way around. Nerds are the computer people, geeks are the scifi/fantasy people.”I’ll second that! Although “computer geek” is probably used more often than “computer nerd” these days, I’ve alywas seen “nerd” as a more mathematical- and science-oriented person, and a “geek” (myself proudly included) as someone with a particular fringe interest, such as The LotR, role-playing, or a particular genre of films. Clearly, there is some interchangeability and overlap here. Perhaps a Venn diagram is in order! (Now that’s nerdy!)

Depends on the day and the varieties of meat filling. They’re pretty evenly matched, otherwise.

    Hi Ryan,
I’m an aspiring children’s fantasy writer and a blog partner of Casey McCormick at Literary Rambles. For the last four years, I’ve been spotlighting primarily debut and middle grade authors through interviews and guest posts and ARC giveaways. I’d love to have you do a guest post with an ARC giveaway of THE YEAR OF LIGHTENING. Mostly I post blog posts on Mondays. So we could do it a Monday that works for both our schedules. I have dates available in November.

Please note that I do all my interviews and guest posts with ARC or book giveaways. I find authors get a much better response if there’s a contest with the interview. Usually with my stats and your help, you’re able to get an ARC for a giveaway. If not, I can’t afford to buy the books for the giveaways anymore because I already spend a ton on postage and I’m laid off as a result of my company closing in 2015. If we can’t get an ARC or book, I’m asking for a donation of a $5.00 gift card at Amazon that I’d use toward the purchase of an e-book for your interview giveaway. I’ll have you hold onto the ARC or book for the giveaway and I’ll try to read the ARC if it becomes available on NetGalley or Edelweiss if I have time.

Literary Rambles has well over 4000 followers. We have increased our following by over 2000 followers in the first two years I’ve been blogging and spotlighting authors and giving away books. I average 40-60 participants in giveaways for popular books, especially for YA books.
